A documentary portraying the Hokhai Leper Colony in the Shan State of Myanmar. Since its foundation in 1938 the colony has been a safe haven for hundreds of lepers who until this day are subject to neglect, stigmatization and often prosecution by their communities in a country where leprosy is still a thread.
Due to its remote location in a restricted area, the absence of governmental aid and the fact that leprosy has fallen into oblivion in many parts of the world the colony suffers from a shortage of provisions and a lack of international aid.
The film was produced under commission of Karuna Myanmar Social Services, the Myanmar branch of Caritas.
